Chuẩn bị nguyên liệu. Ngâm miến vào nước ấm cho mềm. Mướp rửa sạch, gọt vỏ, thái khúc vừa ăn. Tỏi băm nhỏ, ớt thái nhỏ. Tôm rửa sạch, sau khi để ráo nước lột vỏ, bỏ đầu.
Nạo phần lõi bên trong mướp. Không nạo hết mà để lại một chút ở dưới đáy. Nhồi tôm vào giữa miếng mướp. Nếu tôm nhỏ có thể nhồi thêm 2-3 con vào. Đun sôi dầu trong chảo, phi tỏi lên cho thơm, sau đó thêm chút đường và muối cho vừa vặn. Khéo léo đổ phần nước tỏi vào giữa miếng mướp.
Đặt mướp vào nồi hấp, hấp khoảng 8 phút.Pha nước mắm giấm ớt, sa tế vào một chiếc bát nhỏ.
Xếp miến đã chín ra đĩa, đặt mướp lên trên, rưới thêm nước mắm đã pha là có thể ăn được. Nếu không thích ăn kèm miến, bạn có thể ăn kèm cơm cũng rất ngon.
